Brian Gill
AMPWDA Trainer
Brian is currently in his thirteenth year as a law enforcement
officer with the Porter County Sheriff's Department. He began his
career as a K9 officer with his first dog, Dolar, a multi-purpose
German Shepherd, in 2009. Dolar was certified through NAPWDA in
narcotics detection, tracking, area and building searches, article
searches, officer protection, and obedience. Dolar retired in 2016
after serving for over six years. He is currently enjoying the
retired life with his family.
After Dolar retired, Brian felt a calling to focus on fulfilling a
need in providing all that a trailing dog offers. His second K9,
Bumpus, is a Hanoverian Hound. In Bumpus’s short career he has been
certified by GAK9 in trailing (level 1), NAPWDA (tracking and
trailing) and AMPWDA (level 1 and 2). In Bumpus’s three years, he
has had nearly a dozen successful manhunts.
Brian has trained with Jeff Schettler, as well as AMPWDA Master
Trainers Dan Gray and Tony Keith.
Brian is currently the Commander of the K9 Unit for the Porter
County Sheriff’s Department. Beyond patrolling full time, Brian is
also a school resource officer for Porter Township schools, a field
training officer, and a chemical test operator.
